Designing a community climate data hub for Australians

Climate Data for Organisations
Data developed by scientists at the Bureau of Meteorology is set to be a key component of how organisations manage and deal with climate change by bringing together models, forecasts and observations. Australia-based Paper Giant partnered with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology to bring their landscape water balance data to market with a digital vision and prototypes.
Iterative Research and Design
Paper Giant ran an iterative research and design process across four states, with 14 different organisations and over 40 people. This collaboration with the User Centred Design team and scientists at the Bureau resulted in a strategic vision for a new data platform, a roadmap to 2020, and processes for future projects. Their solution was a community data hub that encourages adoption and understanding by bringing together science, data visualisations, case studies, webinars, tutorial videos, and experts in one place.
Outcomes of the Data Hub
The design of the hub went far beyond just providing data, creating a community that encouraged adoption and understanding of the science.
